This class continues and builds upon the Essential Kayak Skills class and aims to help you maximize and expand your paddling experience. We’ll focus on mastering control of your boat and introduce you to new stroke techniques to make your paddling more effective, efficient and safe. With an emphasis on using big muscles (torso, legs) for efficiency instead of relying on your arms, you’ll learn several types of draws, bow rudders and advanced stern rudder. We’ll also cover techniques to help gain greater control of your kayak, including low brace turns, bracing, and self-rescue. As a bonus, the material in this class covers the competencies needed for obtaining an ACA Level 3 award.
Our Essential Kayak Skills course or the ability to wet exit with a sprayskirt is a prerequisite for this course.
